Panasonic unveiled plans to put plasma displays in mobile phones, in place of the traditional LCDs. They are to be used, presumably, exclusively with US network operator AT&T, with their recently announced Mobile TV service. AT&T's Mobile TV service offers feature-length TV content from top US channels, which is due to launch sometime next month.
Mark Balsama, national marketing manager for Panasonic had this to day at the press event: "For nearly a decade, Panasonic's engineers have been secretly working on a thin, lightweight low-voltage compact plasma display ... We will be able to incorporate miniature plasma displays into both consumer and business telephone products starting this fall. They will rival OLED displays for brightness, contrast and thinness, and can be manufactured for much less money."
